Pantherion

I've been to the cinema this weekend, to see a small, low-budget-y, local movie called Pantherion. And since it was such a nice one, I'd like to share the official trailer.

Basically, it's a pilot for a series focussing on a team not much unlike the BBC's Torchwood. They're called Pantherion and are stationed in Graz (yep, the same city as in my user id). But instead of an HQ underneath Roald Dahl's Plass, theirs is inside this little hillock we've got right in the center of our little town. The entire Schloßberg is honeycombed with tunnels, so the makers of the show did not take that much liberties placing the HQ there, inside this rock.

Now, this team is supposed to protect the city from unnatural foes. I think. The pilot did not give away too much information there. But since it featuerd vampires (version 2.0 of the live-sucking persuasion instead of Stoker's blood sucking ones), weird tentacle-monsters from other dimensions plus a tattoo with special powers, I believe protecting the area from these monsters would be the team's basic occupation. And frankly, I think the idea, though not entirely unique, is brilliant. Styria has such a rich fund of myths and sagas, the setting is quite credible. And I believe it would be able to provide many interesting stories.

The pilot, though, leaves quite a lot of questions unanswered. And yet, I did like it quite a lot. Especially since there were so many, many scenes involving my hometown. Usually, a city just serves as a plug-in for "any urban surrounding". But sometimes, it ascends to a leading role. Like Cardiff in Torchwood. Or, even more so, Graz here in this movie. And because of the... unusual filming and the good soundtrack.

It is quite a lovely distraction from the usual, hollywood produced, 3D stuff we get nowadays. Especially because it's not as perfect as an high-end production.

And now excuse me, my muse has once again struck me with inspiration for a Skyrim drabble.
